WILLEMSTAD – Rooi Santu claimed the winter championship on Sunday afternoon after a gripping 6–4 victory over Weto in a match filled with passion and emotion. The encounter was played as part of the Van Straat naar Stadion project of Fundashon Bicentini, which uses football to connect neighborhoods and inspire young people.
Weto set the tone from the opening whistle with aggressive, high-tempo play and quickly took control of the match. The team surged ahead and put league leaders Rooi Santu under heavy pressure, building a 3–1 advantage. However, Rooi Santu showed why it sits at the top of the table, displaying resilience and character to fight back to a 3–3 scoreline before halftime.
After the break, Rooi Santu raised its level. While Weto failed to capitalize on several opportunities, Rooi Santu proved ruthlessly efficient in front of goal. In the final quarter of the match, the attackers struck decisively. A beautifully constructed sixth goal sparked scenes of celebration among players and supporters alike.
Referee Tino Chance received praise afterward for his strong and composed officiating. “This was the kind of match players dream of,” he said. Remko Bicentini also highlighted the broader significance of the competition. “Not only at the top, but also in the middle of the table, everything is very close. The second period will be exciting,” he noted.
With this victory, Rooi Santu heads into the winter break as proud league leaders. Once again, Van Straat naar Stadion demonstrated that football on Curaçao is more than just a game—it brings communities together, motivates youth, and strengthens social bonds across the island.
