WILLEMSTAD - The ‘Ronde Markt’ (Round Market) opened again yesterday, May 13, for visitors. The necessary measures were taken for this. Fundashon Marshe announced this recently. The well-known and popular Ronde Markt in the heart of Punda was closed on March 17.
“Business owners had to stay home without income. During this period, the market was regularly confronted with vandalism by drug addicts, burglary, and various attempts at theft,” says the foundation.
Fundashon Marshe is a government foundation that does not receive a government subsidy. With the income from market stalls and premises, operational costs are paid, such as salary, security, and cleaning. The foundation is currently in a financial crisis, because there is not enough income to pay the operational costs. It concerns business owners who have had no income for two months. As a result, they cannot pay their rent.
