WILLEMSTAD - The Royal Netherlands Navy has intercepted a record number of drugs in the Caribbean this year. Defense reports. After the Zr. Ms. Holland intercepted almost 3,000 kilos of cocaine in recent weeks, the total amount of drugs seized this year will be about 35,000 kilos.
The Coast Guard patrol aircraft discovered a so-called go-fast boat several times in recent interceptions. An American helicopter and the fast Frisc motorboats were used to stop the drug shipments. The suspects found on the boat have been apprehended and handed over to US authorities for prosecution in the United States. The drugs have since been destroyed.
The Zr. Ms. Holland has been the station ship in the Caribbean since October 2022 and works closely with the US Coast Guard and the Caribbean Coast Guard during counterdrug operations. According to the defense, the ship managed to intercept almost 10,000 kilos of drugs in two months.
