WILLEMSTAD - The ruling in the case about the emissions from the Isla causes major problems for the continuity of the refinery.
The court has ruled on appeal that the Country of Curaçao is dealing illegally with emissions of sulfur dioxide and particulate matter that are higher than the standards of the World Health Organization.
The operators of the Isla must now maintain the quality of the air to protect the population. According to sources close the negotiations between the Curaçao Refinery and Curaçao Oil Refinery Complex (CORC), the ruling could cause more delay in the reopening of the power plants.
