WILLEMSTAD - The increase in the sales tax from 6 to 9 percent only applies to imported products. If those things are in the store, then the 6 percent rate simply applies.
The Consumers' Association calls on people to report if supermarkets and mini markets still charge 9 percent. Alcohol taxes also go up. A beer from the store will cost 36 cents more. A bottle of whatever alcoholic beverage amounts to 8.50 guilders more per liter.
