Sambil on its way to reaching its target

Local | By Correspondent March 1, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - Soon the Carrefour Supermarket will open its doors in the second section of the Sambil Shopping Center. There are also other new brands and companies that now have stores in the shopping mall. This now means that the units in the shopping mall are almost completely occupied. It is now about 80% full. This is good news. It shows that despite a slow economy, Sambil is still growing.

In a conversation with the owner of the shopping mall, Jonathan Cohen, Curaçao Chronicle had the opportunity to see firsthand, the progress of the mall. Now the second section, which will be occupied by the international chain of supermarkets, Carrefour, is almost ready, Cohen can say that they are at the point where they wanted to be when they opened the mall on the island.

“It has been hard work really. Not a day to rest,” said Cohen. At the same time, Carrefour is preparing to open its doors, the mall is also working hard on the areas surrounding the supermarket. Inside the mall itself, there will be a children’s section right in front of the supermarket entrance. The parking spaces have been enlarged to make it easier for customers to load their groceries into their cars.

“It has to be a good experience when you do your grocery shopping here at Sambil. We are focused on the family and that is why the entire area surrounding the supermarket must be friendly for everybody.

Carrefour will open its doors this month. The owner did not specify which day exactly, but it will be soon. Curaçao Chronicle has seen the progress and the shelfs in the supermarket are already being filled. This is also why Sambil is working hard on having everything ready for when the supermarket opens.

“The units in front of the Carrefour Supermarket are now prime spots. Right now, they will be turned into a children’s playground and a plaza. But they remain available if there are any business owner who wants to open a store there,” said Cohen.
