Local | By Correspondent March 3, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Yesterday, an amount of sargassum was floating in the water of the Sint Anna Bay in Willemstad.

As is already known, in recent years Curaçao has often been troubled by the floating algae. These can cause odor nuisance. Several parts of the island, especially on the north side has suffered tremendously due to this sargassum. Including areas where there are turtles.

Sargassum is a genus of brown macroalgae (seaweed) in the order Fucales. Numerous species are distributed throughout the temperate and tropical oceans of the world, where they generally inhabit shallow water and coral reefs, and the genus is widely known for its planktonic (free-floating) species.
