School boards receive instructions for heat wave

Local | By Correspondent September 7, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (OWCS) has given school boards instructions for the heat wave. Today is the fourth day in a row that the Curaçao Meteorological Service has issued a yellow code for extreme heat.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN), OWCS has drawn up the 'Heat Guidelines for Schools and Reception'. The guideline states that if temperatures above 33 degrees are measured in the shade, classes should move to a cooler location. If this is not possible, education should be discontinued, according to the ministries. The management itself is responsible for taking the required measures and for informing OWCS thereof.

The ministries call on all parents and teachers to let the children drink plenty of water and to ensure adequate ventilation.
