School boards want answers from the minister

Local | By Correspondent February 11, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Seven school boards recently asked in a joint letter to Minister of Education Steven Croes to clarify the progress of the digitization project.

The schools have been waiting for government action in this area since 2017. In that year a starting shot was given for the digitization of education. But according to the school boards, it has only remained with fine words and many promises from successive Ministers of Education.

ICT in most schools has been a major issue for a long time. They want to know from Croes why the government is not paying attention to this.

In the letter, the boards write: "In recent years, we as joint school boards have raised the alarm several times regarding the digitization project. Many pledges have been made, but unfortunately none of them have been fulfilled."

According to the boards, the "slow and viscous course" is seriously damaging education in Curaçao. With the arrival of Covid, the need for digitization has become even more urgent. Unfortunately, this fact did not accelerate the project either, according to the boards.
