WILLEMSTAD - The negotiations with former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte are in full swing, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). However, Schotte is currently in Colombia.
This is evident from images on social media. Schotte had gone 'live' on his Facebook page in Cali, where his daughter was taking part in a horse-riding competition. According to the OM, another meeting is planned with Schotte next week. The Public Prosecution Service has announced that it will only consider the payment arrangement if Schotte has paid a 'substantial amount'.
Schotte was sentenced to three years in prison for corruption, forgery and money laundering. In addition, the former Prime Minister must pay 1.8 million guilders to the Public Prosecution Service. If he doesn't get this money together, he will have to go back to prison for three years. The deadline for this payment has already passed which was May 12.
