Scientists Urge Immediate Adaptation as Climate Risks Accelerate

Local | By Correspondent December 16, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – Climate change is no longer a distant threat for Curaçao but a present and accelerating reality, according to the institutions behind the newly released climate scenarios.

The Meteorological Department Curaçao and its partners stress that the findings should serve as a foundation for national adaptation strategies, including improved water security, climate-resilient infrastructure, heat protection measures, and coastal defense planning.

While the report emphasizes that climate scenarios are not predictions, it highlights that the choices made globally and locally in the coming years will strongly influence the severity of impacts later this century. The authors call for coordinated action across government, business, and communities to strengthen resilience and protect livelihoods.

“These scenarios are meant to inform decisions today,” the report concludes, “so that Curaçao can prepare for tomorrow’s climate with knowledge rather than surprise”.
