Sea Turtle Conservation Curaçao Presents Research Findings to Governor

WILLEMSTAD — On Friday, December 19, 2025, the Field Director of Sea Turtle Conservation Curaçao (STCC), Ard Vreugdenhil, paid an official visit to the Governor of Curaçao, Mauritsz de Kort.

Vreugdenhil was accompanied by project leader Curd Evertsz and a delegation consisting of Professor Tripepi, supervisors, and students from Thomas Jefferson University. The students were on Curaçao as part of their annual Science Week, which took place from December 13 through December 19, 2025.

During the visit, Vreugdenhil and the students delivered a presentation to the Governor outlining the research project conducted during Science Week, focusing on the causes of sea turtle mortality in Curaçao’s coastal waters. The presentation highlighted scientific findings and preliminary conclusions aimed at better understanding the threats faced by sea turtles around the island.

In addition to the research results, Vreugdenhil also presented an overview of the ongoing work carried out by Sea Turtle Conservation Curaçao, including its efforts to protect sea turtles and preserve Curaçao’s broader marine ecosystem.

The meeting underscored the importance of scientific research, international academic cooperation, and conservation initiatives in safeguarding marine life around Curaçao.
