SEC: 116,146 voters for the March 19, 2021 elections

Local | By Correspondent March 1, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - According to the Supreme Electoral Council (SEC), the voter’s registry was officially closed on December 22, 2020, for the March 19, 2021 elections. On this day Curaçao will elect a new parliament that will take seat on May 12, 2021.

All those that are registered at the Registrar’s Office (Kranshi) in Curaçao on December 22, 2020, and have Dutch nationality and who 18 or older on March 19, 2021, have voting rights. The registry has closed with a total of 116,146 registered voters in Curaçao.

Compared to the elections of April 28, 2018, this time there are 4,284 voters less. The table shows the voters divided in sex and age. It can be noted that the female voters are almost 9,000 more than the male voters. Remarkably is that this decrease has been caused by the 60-year-old group, which is a concern for the community because the average age of the voter has increased in the period between 2017 and 2021 by two years (from 50 to 52).

The number of voters that will participate for the first time is 6067. 3119 are male and 2948 are female.
