Second Access Road Planned for Banda Abou to Improve Traffic Flow and Emergency Access

Local | By Correspondent January 7, 2026

WILLEMSTAD — The Curaçao government is working on the construction of a second, alternative access road for Banda Abou, a project that is expected to be realized later this year. This was reported by the evening newspaper Amigoe following a conversation with Curaçao Parliament member Frenciss Lourens of the MFK party.

According to Lourens, more than 3 million guilders have been allocated for the project. The new road will be built with the necessary supporting infrastructure, including traffic lights. Preparatory studies for the project are currently in their final stages.

The additional access route is intended to ease growing traffic pressure in Banda Abou, particularly as the number of homes and road users in the area continues to increase. Lourens explained that the project is also aimed at improving traffic flow in the event of accidents and ensuring faster and safer access for emergency services.

More details about the start of construction are expected by the end of January. Once work begins, the project is anticipated to take approximately three months to complete.
