Selikor staff on strike

Local | By Correspondent July 12, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - Selikor's garbage collectors took action on Monday because of the shortage of garbage trucks. A large part of the trucks is out of service, so that the work continues to pile up.

Frensley Sillé, chairman of the trade union BTG, informed that at least twenty trucks are needed to be able to carry out the work properly. Last week the garbage collectors started with six trucks and now there are only four left.

Many garbage collectors also get sick because of the very unhygienic situation of dirt that remains outside for a long time.  At the beginning of June, the Council of Ministers approved liquidity support to Selikor. The board is still negotiating.
