WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has an operating deficit of 72 million guilders. The debt to creditors amounts to no less than 60 million. This was announced by the CMC board during a recent press conference.
The Curaçao government wanted the hospital to be the most modern in the Caribbean. This also entails high maintenance and equipment costs, according to interim director Gilbert Martina. The CMC recently filed a lawsuit against the government and won the case. As a result, the government still has to grant the hospital almost 17 million, but that is not enough to close the gap, according to Martina.
