WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Defense reports that the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (police) has arrested seven military officers in Curaçao on suspicion of possession and use of narcotics.
A 33-year-old resident was arrested last week on suspicion of drug trafficking. He would do this at entertainment venues on the island. The investigation revealed that the resident maintained contact with military personnel about drugs.
Traces of cocaine were found at the workplace and the sleeping quarters of the seven soldiers. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has launched an investigation.
The drug trade in entertainment venues is normally tackled by the Curaçao Police Force and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
