Seven million for maintenance Juliana Bridge

Local | By Correspondent November 11, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning Zita Jesus-Leito announced on Tuesday the start of a major overhaul of the Juliana Bridge. The bridge is 56 years old and requires regular major maintenance.

In 2004 maintenance work was carried out on the Punda side of the bridge. Between 2013 and 2014, the asphalt on the bridge was completely replaced. Now there will be major maintenance of the entire bridge over the next two years.

A total of 7 million guilders has been earmarked for the project. Among other things, there will be a new railing and sidewalk on the bridge and the steel structure will also be renovated. The minister emphasizes that the project also provides employment for Curaçaoans.

The Juliana Bridge is an important arterial road in Curaçao and is used intensively. About 50,000 vehicles drive across the bridge every day.

During the work over the next two years, efforts will be made to keep the inconvenience to road users as limited as possible. For example, a lot of work will be done at night and on weekends. The bridge will be closed, partially or not, at regular times, as was announced yesterday.
