Several FKP houses appear to be empty

Local | By Correspondent August 25, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Many houses belonging to the social housing foundation FKP are apparently empty. This is according to Member of Parliament for the coalition partner PNP Elvin Gerard. According to Gerard, there are also tenants who leave their homes and then rent them out while they themselves live abroad. Many of these residents move to the Netherlands without announcing this to the FKP and use the house as an extra income while on social welfare.

This while there are several people on the island in need of an affordable house.

Gerard also points out that the government provides 250 to 400 guilders monthly rent subsidy for social housing. In the meantime, the Member of Parliament has asked fellow party minister Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) questions about this problem.
