AMSTERDAM - The Curaçao director and film producer Sherman de Jesus has received the Oeuvre Award from the Luxor Theater Zutphen for his life's work. According to the jury, his TV documentaries have given him a special place in the Dutch film world.
De Jesus has been striving for thirty years to increase the share of Caribbean films. He is known for his special documentaries such as 'De Indiaan Baarde Een N*ger', 'Boy Ecurie' and 'A Shtetl in the Caribbean', for which he was even nominated for a Golden Calf Award.
The 75-year-old producer is currently working on the TV series 'From Bahia to Brooklyn', in which he visits artists in seven countries, including Suriname, Curaçao, and Jamaica.
