Shortage of electricity these days

Local | By Correspondent August 25, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Residents on the island must take into account a shortage of electricity these days. Utility company Aqualectra currently has no spare capacity due to the corona pandemic. The lockdown has delayed maintenance.

The windless period creates a higher demand and in combination with two turbines under maintenance, there could be power outages.

There were problems last week Friday already. The utility company announced on social media that there could be a shortage of electricity after 10 pm. However, the power went out at a quarter past nine. Various neighborhoods were without electricity until 11 pm.

Aqualectra expects to have sufficient capacity again when the maintenance of the two turbines has been completed.
