Signatures campaign started for UN

Local | By Correspondent October 5, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - A signature campaign started on Curaçao last Saturday. The intention is to reinforce a request to the United Nations (UN). According to Marlo Regales, on behalf of the group that started the signature campaign, the UN wants to urge the Netherlands to fulfill its obligations as a former colonizer. A letter will be sent to the UN for this.

According to Regales, a decolonization process started in the early 1950s. Regales says that this means that the Netherlands must continue to support the islands until they are completely independent. According to him, that is not happening at the moment.

For example, Curaçao has had to wait far too long for more support in connection with the corona crisis. As of today, people can sign the UN list at the SEDA building in Santa Maria.
