Significant increase in corona infections on Bonaire

KRALENDIJK - The number of people on Bonaire infected with the corona virus has increased significantly in the first days of 2021. On December 31, there were still 13 infected people, with 61 people in quarantine.

On January 3 this had increased to 58 people. There are now 151 people in quarantine. There is also now a person infected with corona in the hospital.

Since Sunday, January 3, new, stricter corona rules apply on the island. For example, private meetings may not take place with more than ten people and restaurants and bars may only use a maximum of fifty percent of the capacity, up to a maximum of fifty people. Catering establishments must also close at ten o'clock in the evening.

A maximum capacity of 50 percent also applies to churches. Singing together is prohibited and everyone must go home after the service. Gambling halls, casinos and cinemas may remain open until midnight at the latest, but food and drinks may only be served until 10 p.m. Discotheques and "sex establishments" must remain closed.

Since March of this year, Bonaire has had three corona patients who have died, 156 people have recovered. According to the government, many infections take place in the family sphere.
