Silvania against 'apartheid' in tax collection

Local | By Correspondent March 4, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Finance Javier Silvania wants to put an end to the apartheid and discrimination that occurs in the tax authorities' collection policy. According to Silvania, a distinction is made between people from whom they will collect taxes and others from whom they won’t or are more lenient, depending on their position. Silvania said this during a Central Commission meeting of parliament.

Taxpayers are not treated in the same way, according to Silvania. Based on the position that someone occupies within the government or government limited company, it is determined whether or not tax is collected. Silvania wants to put an end to this. “These people are not going through the same process as regular people,” said the minister.

The ordinary citizen has to go through a procedure to pay taxes, but for people in higher positions it resembles a 'friends and family affair'. In this way, these people lead a luxurious life at the expense of the population, according to Silvania.

He makes a call to everyone. “Don't let anyone trick you, read the collection policy so you know what your rights are.”
