WILLEMSTAD - Finance Minister Javier Silvania does not think that Curaçao can achieve sustainable economic growth if a full repayment of the liquidity support is required.
Silvania therefore asks for 'leniency' from the Netherlands, in the form of refinancing or even canceling loans. Curaçao received a total of about 911 million guilders in liquidity support during the corona crisis. According to Silvania, there is little clarity from the Dutch Court of Audit, only then can an investment plan be drawn up.
The corona loans that Curaçao took out were at zero percent and interest-free until April this year. However, interest charges are involved due to previous loans.
