Local | By Correspondent January 13, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Sixteen new police officers were officially sworn in on Monday, January 12, 2026, by Minister of Justice Shalten Hato. The ceremony took place in the main hall of the police building in Rio Canario.

The newly appointed officers will soon be deployed on the streets to help maintain public order and safety across Curaçao. Their addition comes at a strategic moment, as the island enters the busy Carnival season, a period traditionally marked by large public events and increased security demands.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the new officers represent a significant reinforcement of the Curaçao Police Force and are expected to play an important role in ensuring a safe and orderly Carnival for residents and visitors alike.

The swearing-in underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement capacity and visibility, particularly during peak periods when public safety resources are under greater pressure.
