WILLEMSTAD - Several small contractors who carried out cleanup operations are still waiting for payment from the government.
The delay is reportedly due to the absence of a responsible official from the Ministry of Public Works (OW), who is currently on vacation without a replacement, leaving invoices pending approval.
The contractors have incurred costs for labor and equipment rentals, but the lack of payment is preventing them from meeting their financial obligations, placing them in a difficult position.
