Solution for sargassum problem in sight

Local | By Correspondent April 8, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - There is a solution in sight for the sargassum algae. That is according to Emma Stuive, who is working on a project to recycle the weed for agriculture.

A solution only needs to be found to remove the salt from the alga, after which it can be dried. According to Stuive, this is extremely suitable as a food product for agriculture.

Curaçao has had a major problem with sargassum for several years. Large quantities accumulate, especially on the North Coast, and this is going to smell bad. In addition, gases are released during the decay process that can be harmful to health.
