WILLEMSTAD - The Suit Ocean Team proudly announces the opening night of the movie ‘Curaçao Underwater Kunuku’. On December 18 and 19, The Suit, in the guise of a fictional character, will take the audience at The Movies Otrobanda on a tour of the ‘Curaçao Underwater Kunuku’andshowcase Curaçao’s marine life, above, as well as underwater, with an adventurous touch.
On the 30th of August 2019, The Suit Ocean Team, as the full name sounds, dove into the sea at Oostpunt (Eastpoint) and snorkeled towards the westernmost point as well as the northernmost tip of Curacao in ten days, a journey of approximately 100 kilometers (about 63 miles). During this trip the underwater “kunuku” (=garden) was recorded in moving as well as still pictures. This footage has formed the basis for a special, not for profit documentary produced and released by the Lawrence Mensa Foundation. The aim of this documentary is to show the public that Curacao can be experienced not only by scuba divers but especially by snorkelers as well, wearing a simple mask and snorkel. This way the LMF hopes to attract more tourists in general, and snorkelers and their families in particular.
The movie “Curacao Underwater Kunuku” will also be used by institutions such as CTB and CHATA as a marketing tool while the entire collection of footage will be placed at the disposal of CARMABI for research and education purposes in Curacao.
