Stichting SPLIKA Seeks Papiamentu Texts to Train LengaGPT AI Language Model

Local | By Correspondent December 8, 2025

VLEUTEN – Stichting SPLIKA is actively seeking Papiamentu-language documents to further train and improve its new artificial intelligence tool, LengaGPT. The call was outlined in a revised press statement by Ronald Lieuw, relationship manager of SPLIKA’s Digital and AI committee.

The organization is inviting individuals and institutions to make texts available that can contribute to the development of an independent, community-driven language model for Papiamentu.

LengaGPT is an AI system specifically designed to read, understand, and generate texts in Papiamentu. The first prototype of the language model was presented in March 2025. While international AI language models are already capable of handling Papiamentu to some extent, LengaGPT aims to achieve greater accuracy and consistency, particularly across the different island variants of the language and within specialized domains such as public policy, education, law, and literature.

Over the past year, the Papiamentu.ai initiative has been formally incorporated into Stichting SPLIKA as its Digital and AI committee. As part of this transition, a Data Donation Agreement was developed to ensure that contributed materials are shared transparently and handled responsibly. Individuals and organizations have since been actively approached to participate in the project.

SPLIKA is looking for a broad range of Papiamentu-language materials, including news articles, literary and creative works, policy documents, educational resources, and other texts that enrich the language. Contributors are asked to sign the Data Donation Agreement, which clearly defines how the documents will be used for training the language model.

Those interested in supporting the digital future of Papiamentu and contributing to the LengaGPT project can contact the organization via info@papiamentu.ai.
