Surinam Airways timetable 'business as usual'

Local | By Correspondent August 29, 2022

PARAMARIBO - Surinam Airways (SLM) continues to fly according to the timetable, despite the fuss that arose last week when director Paul de Haan fled the country. This reports Luchtvaartnieuws.nl.

SLM flies from Paramaribo to five destinations: Georgetown, Aruba, Curaçao, Miami and Amsterdam. According to a statement from the airline itself, it is "business as usual". The Surinamese government, also the owner of SLM, has given guarantees for support.

SLM no longer has its own aircraft and uses wet lease providers. The airline has been in serious financial trouble for years. De Haan was unable to put things in order. The government forbade him to leave the country. Last week, the director flew to the Netherlands via French Guiana.

Steven Gonesh will temporarily replace De Haan. However, the pilot with Surinamese nationality is still in quarantine in the Netherlands because of corona.
