WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao police confirmed Tuesday evening that an arrest has been made in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenage boy in the Dein neighborhood last Saturday.
The victim, 17-year-old Alex Coffie, was shot and killed from a passing vehicle while standing near a truk’i pan. The shooting sent shockwaves through the community and sparked renewed concerns about youth violence on the island.
According to police, the parents of a 19-year-old man brought their son to a police station early Sunday morning after suspecting his involvement in the killing. The young man was subsequently arrested and remains in custody while the investigation continues.
Authorities have not released further details about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation. Police continue to urge anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
