SVB employees lay down their work out of dissatisfaction with austerity measures

WILLEMSTAD - Employees of the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) stopped working on Tuesday morning. They are dissatisfied with the cut in their fringe benefits which was announced by the director of the entity Philip Martis. These are austerity measures for 2022 and 2023 as demanded by the government.

According to the secretary of the ABVO union Gregory Wilson, there is dissatisfaction about vacation days and indexation that are withheld from the employees. “These are measures that were already introduced last year, there was no negotiation with the union at the time,” said Wilson.

The employees have spoken to the management of the SVB several times, but the insurance bank would not want to change the measures. The ABVO trade union believes that good negotiations should now take place.

The employees want the management of the SVB to come and talk to all employees. They don't want a conversation with just the union and a delegation of employees as suggested by the management.
