THE HAGUE - The reform of the tax authorities of Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten is an "ambitious process that can only succeed if all elements are implemented jointly and there is political administrative commitment to actually execute it."
This is according to officials of the Dutch Ministry of Finance in the introduction file for the new Minister of Finance Sigrid Kaag. The aim of the reform is “to improve the information position of the tax authorities, simplify tax systems and increase compliance, so that every taxpayer will pay the taxes and contributions owed by him or her on the basis of the applicable laws and regulations.”
The reform of the tax administrations has been enforced by the Netherlands in the context of liquidity support to help the countries through the corona crisis and is part of the so-called country packages that will have to be set up are carried out in the coming years under the direction of the Caribbean Body for Reform and Development.
