WILLEMSTAD - The problem of taxi fares is still persistent. Sinunsta, the taxi drivers' union, is calling on its members to stop using price lists applied by the transport sector.
Recently, Sinusta held a meeting to discuss the matter. The call is related to the national ordinance that has been in force since September 1 and relates to competition.
Using a price list is the same as making price agreements between taxi drivers and the law that came into effect in 2017 prohibits this. The government has introduced maximum fares. Using higher prices than the maximum price is of course also not permitted.
Each driver must determine the price of a taxi ride. The taxi association distances itself from the list it compiled itself at the time and also says that it cannot bear any responsibility for individual members who do make price agreements.
