Temporary closure of the Wills Register due to relocation

Local | By Correspondent November 4, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Central Wills Register, a department of the Ministry of Finance in Curaçao, will temporarily close its doors on November 5 and 6 due to a relocation. Starting Thursday, November 7, the public will be welcome at the new location at Pietermaai 4-4A. Signs at the new building will guide visitors to the correct entrance on the right side of the property.

The Central Wills Register registers wills drawn up by notaries and provides information about them to the public and notaries. This is done, among other things, for the benefit of heirs who need a will declaration to distribute the estate or to prepare a declaration of inheritance rights. The will declaration indicates whether the deceased had a will, on what date it was created, and with which notary it was registered. However, the content of the will itself is not public.

To request a will declaration, survivors must follow several steps, including filling out a form, paying a fee of 25 guilders, and submitting several documents, such as the death certificate. Requests are typically processed within two weeks.
