WILLEMSTAD - Over the past period, the Coast Guard has intensified surveillance of the coastlines with the assistance of the Defense organization in the Caribbean. Military assistance means that military personnel on land and near coastal locations will monitor intensively. This intensification is the result of the corona crisis that has gripped the world and the islands. Coastal surveillance is primarily aimed at illegal maritime transport of goods and persons who try to reach the islands illegally and which, in addition to a criminal risk, also pose a COVID-19 risk to society. The Coast Guard will continue to monitor the maritime borders and coasts in the coming period and the intensification with the assistance of the Defense will be maintained.
The Coast Guard is calling on all citizens who observe suspicious situations at sea and along the coastlines to call the emergency number 913. Vessels at sea can contact the Rescue and Coordination Center of the Coast Guard via VHF channel 16 if they observe suspicious and / or dangerous situations. With your cooperation, we keep the sea and the coastlines of the islands safe during the corona crisis.
