The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride a great success

Local | By Correspondent May 26, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - About a hundred motorcyclists toured the island on Sunday during the first edition of The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride on Curaçao. The event drew attention to men's health.

The November organization, a collaboration partner of The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, is active worldwide in raising funds for scientific research in the field of 'human health'. One of the ways in which these funds are raised is by organizing a motorcycle tour, where the riders are neatly dressed.

The campaign focuses on topics such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and the prevention of desperate acts including suicide. Emphasis is placed on breaking taboo and talking openly about various relevant topics. Awareness about the fact that a visit to the general practitioner, specialist or treatment centers should not be delayed too long also plays a major role.

According to the organization, the message to start the conversation has been well received by the population. Several speakers responded to the central message, including Jandino Asporaat. “Ta hòmber mi ta”, said Asporaat. “I'm a dude, but if only you had been a dude before. Then you would have gone to the doctor earlier. You must be that hòmber now, so get it checked.”
