WILLEMSTAD - "The government will have to put its hand in its own bosom to get out of the financial problems," says economist Rob van den Bergh.
The economist of CurConsult and member of the economist club is not worried about it. The government apparatus is inefficient and deals with issues that must be divested.
In addition, according to Van den Bergh, the government is far too expensive. Already 15 years ago, the IMF stated that civil servants' pensions should be reduced. Their medical facilities are also far too luxurious. "That the government now has to cut 127 million was predictable," says the economist.
"Measures such as increasing excise duties and sales tax have adverse effects on the economy." Van den Bergh agrees with the words of former central bank president Emsley Tromp.
