WILLEMSTAD - The first baby of the year was almost born on the second day, but the little girl was born right before 12 am. Su’sergiëaly, a healthy baby, was born on January 1 at 11:44 pm.
Su’sergiëaly is the daughter of Suvianka Pieter and Serge Soto Beltran. She weighed 3,120 grams at birth in the Advent hospital and is 48 centimeters tall.
1,900 babies are born in Curaçao every year, but last year's lockdown may have affected that figure.
In September, the number of births in Curaçao seemed to decline significantly. Then the counter stood at over 1100. With that number it was expected that 1500 new babies would have been added by December 31.
