The government is obliged to grant or reject a building permit within a certain period of time

Local | By Correspondent August 5, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - The government will soon commit itself to granting or rejecting a building permit within a certain period of time. This is apparent from the answer from Minister of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning Zita Jesus-Leito.

According to Jesus-Leito, building permits must already be issued within a reasonable period of time. Six weeks is a reasonable period for the minister.

Interim director of the Department of Spatial Planning and Planning Chesley Rach says that there are exceptions when a construction project is very large, for example.

The citizen is required to apply for a building permit, so it is only reasonable that the government is obliged to provide a definitive answer within a certain period. The minister agrees.

The minister therefore indicates that a building permit must be issued within a reasonable period of time. This week it was announced that the minister herself signed all building permits, and would not leave that to the interim director of ROP Chesley Rach. This means that building permits are even more delayed than they already are. In the meantime, this has been changed and Rach also has signing authority.
