WILLEMSTAD - This afternoon the Governor of Curaçao, Mrs. L.A. George-Wout, has requested Mr. C.H. Peterson to form a government with the support of the political parties Movementu Futuro Korsou (MFK) and the Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP).
The new cabinet to be formed must consist of persons who are willing and able to implement the coalition agreement that has yet to be finalized in an ethical and balanced manner. Mr. Peterson was asked to ensure that the coalition agreement pays concrete attention to the challenges previously identified in the information assignment (poverty reduction, the recovery of public finances, economic development, tackling the backlog in the education, rehabilitation of infrastructure, improvement of health care and tackling crime).
In view of the urgency of the problems that the new cabinet will face and the many current cases, consideration has also been given to devoting the necessary attention in the coalition agreement to the way in which the new cabinet to be formed intends to shape cooperation within the Kingdom. It was emphasized that it is very important that government policy contributes to perspective for the population and stability and tranquility in the society.
Mr. Peterson has also been asked to ensure that the National Ordinance on Integrity of (Candidate) Ministers is observed in the formation.
Mr. Peterson has considered the assignment and will report the outcome to the Governor by 19 May at the latest and will keep her informed of the progress of his work.
