Local | By Correspondent October 24, 2022

THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - Alarmed by reports that nursing homes in Curaçao are in such a financial need that they cannot offer the elderly a (full) meal, the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has contacted the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN) of Curaçao.

This is the answer by State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Van Huffelen to written questions from Member of Parliament Kauthar Bouchallikh of the GroenLinks party. The government in Willemstad reported that it was "aware of the seriousness of the situation and that it had been working on various steps for some time to arrive at an integrated and structural approach to the various challenges in care in Curaçao."

Van Huffelen adds: “It is not a good thing that people within the Kingdom live in nursing homes under such conditions. That is also recognized in Curaçao and I am also affected by it.”
