WILLEMSTAD - The Kitten Rescue Curacao Foundation is going to tackle the stray cat problem of Coral Estate. In the collaboration, the foundation will prevent the cats that live on the resort grounds from multiplying.
The foundation has previously supervised similar projects at Blue Bay Resort and LionsDive Beach Resort. The TNRC approach is also used at Coral Estate, which stands for 'trap-neuter-return-care'. Kitten Rescue has placed fixed feeding stations at various locations on the site. Here all cats will be caught and released back after sterilization. A group of volunteers will then provide the stray cats with food and drinking water on a daily basis.
Given the number of cats and the size of the area, the foundation expects it will take at least a year before all cats have been caught and sterilized. The foundation says that “this proven approach will stabilize the stray cat population, drastically reduce nuisance at restaurants and homes and that the cats will have a better and healthier life.”
Kitten Rescue is calling on other hotels and resorts affected by stray cats to get in touch to implement this approach island-wide.
