The mangrove forest in Otrabanda is reconnected to the sea

Local | By Correspondent September 15, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Yesterday the mangrove forest at Rif, Otrabanda was connected to the sea. The restoration and cleaning work of the first part of the nature reserve has reached the point where seawater is allowed to flow in.

The whole operation took two days.

Work on the second section between Corendon and Coney Island has also started. As many mangrove trees as possible will be preserved and replanted where possible.

There is also dredging for a better circulation of the water in the nature reserve.
