The Moving Forward Project of Rotary Club Curaçao has started again!

Local | By Press release March 9, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Since 2015, Rotary Club Curaçao has started an after-school program for teenagers from a VSBO school. This was originally funded with proceeds from the charity event 50 Hours Live. This project has been continued this year and this time at the SGO Jacques Ferrandi school, sponsored by Rotary Club Curaçao.

The Moving Forward project entails that 25 students of a VSBO school will follow an intensive after-school program during 4 school years, if some requirements are met, until they take their exams. The students of SGO Jacques Ferrandi are already in their third year of school. These participating students do not receive the guidance they need at home (for various reasons). In the program, they receive a lunch from Monday to Thursday, and then 1.5 hours of homework supervision. In addition, attention is also given to social emotional education, healthy movement and cultural artistic education, and IT and Vocational training. The aim is to prepare these students for society so that they can find a job after their school or move on to the next level of an educational program.

The students follow the Moving Forward project on a voluntary basis but must, among other things, attend 80% of the program in order to continue to follow the Moving Forward program and the intention is that they do their best to pass the schoolyear. The parents also play an important role in the project by holding monthly meetings with the project coordinator.

The various comments:

President Rotary Club Marius van Noort: “We are happy that we can help the students and ensure that they have a good future, that is the mission of RCC.”

Mrs. Koeiman: “We appreciate and are very pleased that Rotary has started this project.”

Mrs. Czygarraine Alexander (Chosen Project Coordinator for Rotary): “We saw that the students needed help and so we will now provide the help they have missed.”

A student participating in the program: “I really enjoy getting extra help so that I am now learning well.”
