WILLEMSTAD – The team of Teatro Kadaken paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Curaçao, Mauritsz de Kort, on Friday, January 30, 2026, with theatre and democratic engagement at the heart of the discussions.
During the meeting, attention was given to the initiative Simia di Demokrasia (Seeds of Democracy), which is intended to reinforce the message of Teatro Kadaken’s most recent theatre production, Piar: e último bataya (Piar: the last battle). The Governor expressed his appreciation for the initiative and underscored the importance of cultural and social engagement for the benefit of society as a whole.

He also highlighted the specific role of theatre within the community, particularly its positive influence on young people, noting that artistic expression can play a vital role in fostering awareness, dialogue and civic values.
The conversation further touched on the broader need for a national theatre in Curaçao, reflecting ongoing discussions about strengthening the island’s cultural infrastructure.
Following the meeting, and in connection with the latest theatre production, a photograph was taken in the garden of the Governor’s Palace, overlooking Plasa Piar, marking the occasion and symbolizing the link between culture, history and democratic values.
