WILLEMSTAD - Next month, the first three-masted sailing vessel BAE Guayas from Ecuador will enter the port of Curaçao for a visit of a few days.
A program of activities related to this special visit is in progress. This will take place in the same year that the major event Velas Latinoamérica Curaçao 2022 is taking place in Curaçao which will be in June.
Unfortunately, this three-master cannot participate, but can be seen in the harbor of Curaçao for a few days in mid-January. The last time that was possible was during the 2018 edition. The ship is now on its way to Brazil where Velas Latinoamérica 2022 begins.

Navy
The BAE Guayas is the training ship of the Ecuadorian Navy and is based in Guayaquil in Ecuador. The vessel was built by the Astilleros Celaya shipping company in Bilbao, Spain, which has also built similar vessels such as the Gloria of Colombia, Simon Bolívar of Venezuela and Cuauhtémoc of México.
It is possible to visit the three-master when it is in the Curaçao harbor. But that depends on the restrictions in force at that time due to the corona pandemic. Schools in the harbor area are being contacted to board in small groups for a presentaton above deck in the open air.
The visit itself is from Wednesday 12 to Friday 14 January 2022. Classes and groups can come on board on Thursday 13 January. This is possible by appointment with Renard Hurtado, who can be reached by phone and app via number 560-4542. Contact him before December 20.
