WILLEMSTAD - In the investigation into the drug robbery from the Rio Canario police station in October 2018, the police arrested three suspects this week. It concerns men between 25 and 60 years old. They are suspected of drug trafficking.
One of the men was sent home yesterday, but he remains a suspect in the case. The other two men were brought before the examining magistrate today.
The case has attracted a lot of attention in recent years. It concerned 600 kilos of cocaine that had just been seized by the police in a previous case and was kept at the Rio Canario office.
On the night of October 13 to 14, 2018, unknown persons managed to force through two large metal doors in the police station to gain access to the batch of drugs. At the time, the Public Prosecution Service denied reports that money and firearms were also stolen. As part of the investigation, a burned-out truck that may have been used in the robbery was seized.
The Public Prosecution Service spoke of a 'very serious, brutal drug robbery'. In January this year, the Public Prosecution Service offered a reward for the golden tip. A few weeks later, this reward was even increased to an amount of 30,000 guilders.
