Three suspects convicted of murder on Caracasbaaiweg

Local | By Correspondent November 13, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - On Thursday, the Court of Justice sentenced three suspects to prison terms of 20 and 16 years for the murder of Genciël Feller. The 23-year-old Amsterdam-born criminal was shot dead on the Caracasbaaiweg on September 2, 2019.

The suspects were already sentenced in 2020 by the Court of First Instance to 20 years in prison. For the 25-year-old suspect, the Court is of the opinion that a lower sentence is appropriate.

In addition to the minor role that the man had in the murder, his young age would also have played a role in the choice for a lower sentence. He was not one of the gunmen, nor was he previously sentenced to prison.

The Court based the convictions, among other things, on statements made by a witness before the police. Earlier this year, the same witness suddenly released a different statement during the trial. Criminal proceedings revealed that the man had made a false statement. His statement to the police was reliable and was used to convict the three suspects.
